MOREL, expert in plastic extrusion, will be at FIP 2024
MOREL is a company based in Lons-le-Saunier in the Jura region of France, specializing in plastics converting by extrusion and the manufacture of door curtains. Recognized for its solutions in plastics processing, the company offers its services to many markets (automotive, food processing, construction, household appliances, etc.) and has confirmed its presence at the FIP in 2024.
Can you tell us more about the MOREL company and its field of activity ?
The Morel company is a Jura SME which was founded in 1937 by the grandfather of the current director, Hugo Morel. We are the 3rd generation in place and thanks to our experience MOREL has established itself as a key player in the plastic extrusion market. Our know-how has been developed over time and our teams have extensive experience in both materials and techniques.
Do you have a customer success story related to sustainable development to share with us?
Since 2015 we have been developing a range of finished products: the blackout slats for welded panel fencing. These products were developed in-house well before and have seduced the market, but it was necessary to complete the range by bringing a different product: we developed a blackout slat – EPSILON – composed of PP but also of an important talc mineral charge. The gamble paid off: this product created a real novelty on the market with its shape and the possibility of varying heights to create an original installation model, but also the material of this slat which ensures better resistance to UV rays while being more noble.
Plastic extrusion is a good solution in terms of price, weight, strength and even aesthetics. Plastic still has many years to go!
You will be present at the 2024 exhibition, what new solutions will we be able to discover on your stand?
To continue on the bio-based materials, we are currently looking for alternative solutions to the “traditional” materials. We are working with a laboratory to develop new sources of supply and thus meet market expectations. But I can’t tell you more for the moment, see you at the FIP in 2024!
At the same time, we work with materials that until then we did not use much: polycarbonate. A request from a customer for a LED cover profile allowed us to open up to a market that our company had not yet exploited.
How are the current challenges in the plastics industry changing the demands you receive?
We see 2 types of requests:
- A desire to bring manufacturing back to France – MADE IN FRANCE: today our customers and prospects are aware of environmental issues and want to relocate their production. The Covid crisis has called into question the need for foreign sourcing and even if everything cannot be made in France, our know-how and adaptability remain our strengths.
- The desire to produce with biobased materials: whether from our customers or our prospects, this request comes up regularly. We are totally capable of developing these products, but the constraints are different, especially in terms of cost. These materials are much more expensive to purchase.
