Interview with APM – Circular Economy for the Plastics Industry

Interview with APM – Circular Economy for the Plastics Industry

How is the circular economy integrated into your company? Do you have any notable achievements to share with us?

Beyond the now-standard practices of environmental responsibility in our operations—such as waste treatment and recycling, or energy reduction—APM has always had in its DNA a technical and sustainable approach that goes beyond the materials themselves.
For example, in the deployment of our materials dedicated to automotive applications, our offering includes a hemp-filled material—a renewable resource that sequesters carbon—with enhanced performance that allows for the use of only the necessary amount of plastic. This redesign approach reduces the weight of components, corresponding to a lower environmental footprint at the start of the product lifecycle.
At the end of the lifecycle, regarding recycling:

  • Our hemp-filled materials are recyclable on their own but also compatible with conventional recycling streams, unlike glass-fiber reinforced PP, for example.

  • A recent notable achievement has been the development of a grade combining hemp fibers and recycled PP, called “NAFILean-R”, forming a biocomposite that performs as well as virgin PP and has the unique feature of a negative CO₂ emission factor.
Furthermore, APM offers the market a complete value chain model—from seed to final product—capable of securing hemp biomass sources, guaranteeing final product performance, and ensuring the promised environmental benefits.

Our company is therefore constantly striving to provide solutions that close the loop of the circular economy, offering a comprehensive approach that maintains a virtuous cycle while involving all stakeholders across the territories.
